Welcome to The Mess Hall

Hi,

My name is Rich, I am passionate about food, music and bringing people together. I have worked as a chef for over twenty years from chopping kilos of carrots all summer long to running large scale operations as a Head Chef. I always wanted to open up my own place so when my sister Fran and her partner Sarah bought 32 Fore Street I was keen to pitch to them a cafe, bar-event space … and they bloody went for it! Sarah and I worked day and night, with loads of brilliant local tradesman and with huge support and influence from my wife Anelise and my sister Fran to turn the shop space into a cafe bar and I opened The Mess Hall doors in May 2022. 

With the help of a stellar front of house team, a new chef and great friend in the kitchen we have expanded our offer and also now have an events calendar of music, arts and activities so head over to our EVENTS page to check out our programme.

I have had incredible support from the local community already and I really look forward to continuing to welcome you and your families into the cafe bar space and the beautiful hidden garden space for food and fun throughout the year.
